Letter from the President, Michael Deluise

When someone new to the area first
visits Melville and all of our surrounding communites they often feel something good and exciting in
the air. At the Melville chamber we like to think a great deal of what's so
special about this wonderful community is found in the strength of the many
businesses that do so well serving the 110 Corridor and our Long
Island neighbors.
This unique excitement was clearly
evident on January 14, 2010 at 300 Long Island when the Melville Chamber of Commerce honored seven outstanding businesses
and one remarkable elected official.
From the days of Rosie the Riveter
working day and night shifts at Fairchild Republic to today when companies such
as this year's business honorees Newsday,
Holtz Rubenstein Reminick,
Jackson Lewis, The EGC Group, 300 Long
Island, and The Courtyard by
Marriott dedicate themselves to doing the best job they can - our regions businesses and their employees stand as great American models.
This year your Chamber also honored
the Salvation Army of Suffolk County.
Coincidentally our awards ceremony occurred shortly after the earthquake
tragedy in Haiti.
It was remarkable that so many in attended our event took time out from
networking and socializing to make very generous donations in support of those
affected by the earthquake.
As is usual our members unselfishly
and without fanfare reached out to help those in need. That's what it is all
about among our wonderful members.
The most difficult chore of this
year's honoree selection committee was to pick only eight honorees from the
dozens and dozens of most worthy organizations.
On January 14th we also honored the Hon. Frank Petrone, Supervisor of the Town
of Huntington. Supervisor Petrone is the epitome of what is so very special
about our community and the people he serves. For 16 years Frank Petrone has
unselfishly dedicated himself to providing what is best for business, for
residents, and for those who visit us.
The seven organizations that shared
the 2010 spotlight with Supervisor Petrone at the Melville chamber annual
business of the year celebration were not chosen only because of their
financial success and their ability to meet the challenges of tough economic
times. They were chosen because the men and women who head their organizations
as their employees do remarkable things
every day in and out of the office to make Long Island and America a better
place to live and do business in.
The Melville Chamber congratulates the 2010 honorees along
with all of our member organizations who each day do so much to make the next
day an even better one for all of us. We look forward to continued success
throughout the years to come as we work with you to help each other succeed.
That's why we're here. Let's build a future together.
Best regards,
Michael Deluise
President

Repeal the MTA Tax
|
REPEAL THE MTA TAX ON SMALL BUSINESS
As if things are
not bad enough, local businesses, municipalities and school districts
on Nov. 2 had to fork over 34 cents for every $100 of their payrolls to
help dig the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) out of a $1
billion deficit. The tax affects all businesses and municipalities,
school districts and nonprofit organizations that have a payroll and
hospitals within the areas that are serviced by the MTA. These areas
include the counties of New York (Manhattan), Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn),
Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Nassau, Suffolk, Orange,
Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester.) PLEASE sign the petition to help
repeal the MTA Tax, and forward it to everyone.
